For Children and Adolescents

Today, about one in three American kids and teens are overweight or obese. Childhood obesity is defined as a body mass index greater than the 95th percentile for the particular age of the child. This is determined using accurate growth measurements and plotting of height and weight. Approximately 17 percent of children in the United States are obese. Children with a poor diet run the risk of growth and developmental problems and poor academic performance. Bad eating habits can persist for the rest of their lives, so education on proper nutrition is important from an early age.

Among children, obesity causes a broad range of health problems, including high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and elevated cholesterol levels. There are also psychological effects of obesity on children, including low self-esteem, negative body image, and depression.

LIVE LEAN! and Dr. Dean Lombardo believe that weight management in children and adolescents requires ongoing guidance and encouragement to make lifestyle changes that will last a lifetime. There is not a “one size fits all” approach to patients, as is often seen in weight programs. Every diet and exercise plan does not work for everyone. Our programs take a goal-oriented approach based on the patient’s physiological needs, which may include individual exercise and nutrition plans.

Guidelines

  • Children age 14+ can use any of the two main programs (food and product based)
  • For children under 14, the doctor recommends a nutritional plan and exercise program
  • Parents will monitor and submit all recorded information about weight, BMI and BCA to doctor Lombardo

If you have any questions regarding your child and what program or regimen is best for them, call LIVE LEAN! at (888) 383-9197 to request a consultation with Dr. Lombardo. Ocala FL residents can also call (352) 425-7648.
